Annual Meeting Talk
At our annual meeting on May 22nd, we had a great talk by Tom Moriarity on preservation and retail development in our Connecticut Avenue corridor. His recommendation that Cleveland Park form a Business Improvement District or Main Street Program to bring funding and professional support to neighborhood placemaking and businesses is being actively pursued by business owners and community organization leaders. CPHS is eager to support these efforts.
New Board Members
The membership elected four new board members, Polly Ghazi, Valerie Leonard, Rick Nash, and Jonny Sultoon. We owe a big vote of thanks to retiring board members John Buchanan, Ana Evans, and Gwen Wright, and to current board members Shannon Penberthy, Myra Best, and Mary Jane Glass, who made the annual meeting possible by providing refreshments and doing all the setup and cleanup.
New Preservation Task Force
At a followup meeting in June, the board reelected officers and established a new committee, the Preservation Task Force (PTF). The PTF will make recommendations to the board on matters of ongoing concern that are not covered by the Architectural Review Committee’s project review mandate, such as advocacy with DC Council and agencies, prevention of demolition by neglect, Connecticut Avenue corridor issues, etc. Contact the PTF at preservation@clevelandparkhistoricalsociety.org.
