Designed and built in 1919 by W.C. & A.N. Miller, 3429 34th Street is a contributing structure in the Cleveland Park Historical District. The house has been renovated in the past. The current proposal includes a new two-story plus basement rear addition, window replacements and the removal of the non-historic rear deck which will be replaced by a new rear deck. The existing bay on the north side of the house will be rebuilt and the slate roof will be replaced. Also on the north side, a new side entry will be added. The divided light replacement windows will more closely match the existing windows, and the rear addition will step back between the first and second floors allowing for the creation of a green roof. New materials include stucco and metal cladding which will help differentiate the new addition from the existing house.
The ARC has no objection to the proposal as presented and notes that the addition is mostly hidden from the street. However, the ARC also notes that the reconstruction of the bay presents an opportunity for the use of a different material on the bay which should be considered.
The motion passed 6-0.
