CHPS’s Design Guidelines for Cleveland Park’s Historic Commercial Corridor were reviewed and commented on during an informational presentation at the October 26, 2023 Historic Preservation Review Board Meeting. The presentation was given by CPHS’s Executive Director, Stephen Hansen.
Several other community organizations have also developed historic district design guidelines for their own historic districts or neighborhoods. Although not officially adopted by HPRB, they do recognize that community guidelines provide sound advice and describe the principles that guide preservation review by the respective organizations.
We hope that these guidelines will provide the needed information and specific details for property owners, the community, and developers. They will supplement our extant design guidelines to now also address the commercial corridor; serve as a framework for CPHS’s Architectural Review Committee (ARC) in evaluating projects; and be a basis for CPHS to comment on projects affecting the historic commercial corridor more broadly.
The CPHS guidelines are now posted to HPO’s Historic Districts Guidelines page under the heading “Community Historic District Design Guidelines.”
